COP30: A climate summit in the Amazon

Añade algo de texto

COP30 will take place from November 10 to 21, 2025, in Belém, Pará, Brazil, bringing together the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC to address the global climate crisis. The choice of Belém, in the heart of the Amazon, aims to highlight the urgency of preserving biodiversity and promoting environmental justice, while also advancing a fair and inclusive energy transition — key themes of the climate agenda.

This global gathering represents a unique opportunity for Brazil to strengthen its role as a regional leader and reaffirm the Amazon’s vital importance in global climate governance.

Simultaneous interpretation and official translation

The COP30 organizers will hire a partner company to provide simultaneous interpretation services, both in-person and remote, in negotiation areas and official panels. Delegations will be able to request these services according to their needs.

Inclusive projects for traditional communities

In collaboration with The Nature Conservancy (TNC), a training program will prepare up to 30 Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and traditional community representatives — with a focus on young people and women — to serve as translators and interpreters in English, Spanish, and various Indigenous languages of Pará.

The HUMANA experience

The HUMANA company, based in the region, has been involved since the early preparation stages of COP30, offering both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation during official visits, including for the French technical delegation. The company is also engaged in training Indigenous interpreters, promoting accessibility and cultural representation at the conference.

Expansion of language services in the city

With the high demand expected, local translators — in addition to official interpreters for the delegations — are preparing to serve international visitors. Services such as menu translations, tourist assistance, and guides in English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and other languages are being expanded.

Government programs in Pará have also trained around 16,000 workers in the hospitality, gastronomy, and service sectors through intensive English courses, focusing on commercial and environmental vocabulary.

Conclusion

COP30 will be a stage for multilingual dialogue, with official interpretation infrastructure, recognition of Indigenous languages, and a city prepared to share its culture with the world. By combining technical expertise, cultural inclusion, and local mobilization, the conference aims to ensure that every voice is heard — both in the plenary and on the streets of Belém.
